Rainbow Wrap & Ocean Activities
Exploring ‘The Gruffalo’ story has seen lots of smiles and laughs in Rainbow room this week. The children have been making Gruffalo crumble for all to eat and natural resources have allowed the Gruffalo to visit the room. Using a number of malleable materials the children have also been designing their own Gruffalo and the variety of places the children wanted him to live. 16/10/17

The children in Ocean and Rainbow Rooms have been following their interests of ‘Superheros’. They have been designing their own superheros, dressing up and joining in with Superhero dancing. 22/6/17
The children have been creatively using flowers. They began by painting a still life of flowers, looking at and talking about the shapes, sizes, colours and parts of the flowers. They have used flowers to print with making repeated patterns across the paper. They are going to do some experiments standing flowers in dye to see what happens! It is good for the children to work with natural materials.
In Ocean, the children have enjoyed cooking this week focusing on the children’s interest. During the process of making cup cakes the children were embedding the skill of following simple instructions and were taught about hygiene and safety whilst cooking. 12/5/17
Ocean and Rainbow Room have been celebrating Chinese New Year. The children looked at the Traditional story of Chinese New Year and why it is celebrated. They made Chinese lanterns and danced to Chinese music with scarves, pretending to be Chinese dragons! This is supporting the children to understand and promote British Values particularly the value of mutual respect and tolerance. It is important to share experiences with each other and to celebrate a diverse community. Dancing to Chinese music encourages the children to use their gross motor skills and move rhythmically. The children have really enjoyed displaying their lanterns and celebrating their achievements. 10/2/17
Children have been engaging in various Christmas activities. Most Children have enjoyed making food for Santa’s Reindeer. They enjoy talking about Christmas including Father Christmas, and giving and receiving presents. Many of them went to Sunshine Room to watch the Christmas Nativity…next year it will be their turn! 14/12/16
The Harvest theme has been explored with Five Rhymes and stories and lots of colour and pattern around autumn. The children are still enjoying the leaves and conkers in the garden.
Outside children are learning about capacity, floating and sinking and how water moves in the new cascading water trays and pipes.
Outdoor play is an essential part of the children’s experiences at nursery whatever the weather so warm waterproof clothing and welly boots all help to keep them warm and dry. We do have some wet suits for the mud kitchen but toddlers exploring the natural environment will always find the messiest bits! So please don’t send them in their best clothes! 24/10/16
