Muriel Green Admissions for the year 2017 / 2018
Muriel Green Nursery School
Contact us directly if you are looking for a Nursery place for your child.
If you are interested in the new additional 15 hours (i.e. 30 funded hours) from September you will need to apply online for the first 15 hours and directly to the nursery School for the second 15.
Muriel Green Nursery School will offer the funded 30 hours that is available to qualifying families in September 2017, this will be a combined offer of 15 hours in the Nursery School, to be taken as: Morning, Afternoon or Flexible places which can all be fully wrapped with Day Care for the second fifteen hours.
Flexi 1 is two sessions on each of Monday and Tuesday and one session on Wednesday morning
Flexi 2 is one session on Wednesday afternoon and two sessions on each of Thursday and Friday.
We are unable to offer these hours in other combinations.
This is a unique offer to be able to have nursery education and care led by fully Qualified Teachers together with high quality Day Care provision using the same facilities, staff work across the setting, train and work together to give the children continuity. The school offers a single intake in September 2017 for all children who will be going to their Reception classes in September 2018.
If you would like more information please contact the school office.
Wherever possible the Nursery recommends that children attend either all morning or all afternoon sessions. This gives them a good routine and a broad and balanced curriculum across the week. Morning and afternoon sessions offer all children the same high quality education and care.
MEALS: For flexi 1 and Flexi 2 when children do a morning and afternoon session on the same day a charge is made for lunch. Lunches are cooked on the premises by Herts Catering, they are served in small groups in our dining room. Children are taught to eat independently using a knife and fork, self-serving vegetables and learning good table manners in a pleasant social atmosphere.
Meal Clubs: additional extended sessions can be purchased with a breakfast lunch or tea subject to availability. Lunch and tea are both freshly cooked on site each day.
Children from Muriel Green Nursery School move onto many local primary schools. In September 2016 children went on to : Garden Fields JMI School, St Michael’s C of E VA Primary School, Alban City School, Maple Primary School, Aboyne Lodge School, The Abbey C of E VA Primary School, Margaret Wix Primary School, Bernards Heath Infant School, How Wood Primary School, Wheatfields Infant and Nursery School, Skyswood Primary and Nursery School, Killigrew Primary and Nursery School, St Alban & Stephen Catholic Infant and Nursery School, Cunningham Hill Infant School and Sandridge School. Nearly all the schools visited the children at Muriel Green and there is a good relationship with local schools. The first 4 on the list do not have their own Maintained Nursery Class and a high proportion of Muriel Green children move on to these schools.

Admissions for funded 15 hours the term after a child’s 3rd birthday
All children are entitled to 15 free hours of nursery education in term time, the term after their third birthday. If your child will be three between January and March 2017 they would be eligible to have a place in the summer term of 2017 subject to availability. Please speak to Jan Honeybell in the school office.
Children born in the summer months are sometimes not ready for the challenges of joining a Reception Class. It is possible for them to stay in Nursery and go through school with children in the next year group. This will mean that they become the oldest not the youngest which can be of great benefit to their learning and development. Please see Karen Ashton if you would like to discuss this.
